Privacy Policy
WordPin teaches you words from your own photos: photograph what’s around you and it tells you what those things are called in the language you’re learning. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, who processes it, and how you can delete it.
What we collect
- Photos and screenshots you upload. Before upload they are resized to 1600 pixels on the long side, and metadata such as time and location (GPS) is removed.
- An anonymous identifier, generated at random on your device the first time you open the app, to keep your data apart from other people’s. There is no sign-up; we don’t collect your name, email address or phone number.
- Learning data: the languages you chose, the words you saved, your review history and how many photos you scanned each day.
- Problem reports you send, including the problem you picked, any note you wrote and the word card you were looking at.
We don’t collect your location, contacts or advertising identifier, we don’t track you across apps, there are no ads, and we never sell data.
How we use it
Photos are used only to find the things in them, write your words, example sentences and word cards, and show them back to you when you review. Word cards contain only a word and its explanation; once written, they are shared with everyone learning the same language and carry no personal information.
Who processes it
- AI model providers. WordPin sends your selected photos or screenshots, chosen languages and text extracted from images to OpenRouter (Wafer, Inference.net, Z.AI, Novita) and Z.AI (Zhipu AI) via our server. Z.AI’s GLM model identifies objects and text and creates vocabulary, example sentences and word cards. Location metadata is removed before upload. You can delete your photos and learning data in Settings.
- Hosting. Data is stored on servers we rent in Hong Kong (for users in mainland China, on servers in mainland China).
Pronunciation uses your device’s built-in speech and never goes through our servers.
Keeping and deleting your data
- Photos and learning data are kept until you delete them.
- Deleting a scene in the app deletes its photo.
- Settings → Delete All My Data immediately deletes all photos, words, review history and problem reports we hold for you.
Children
WordPin is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information.

Product usage and purchases
We collect app opens, feature use, scan counts and processing times, and purchase status on our own servers, linked to the random identifier used by this app. These product events are kept for up to 90 days and are removed when you delete your app data. Apple processes in-app payments. We keep verified transaction references, product, currency and price when provided by Apple, expiration and refund status to deliver subscriptions and handle restores and refunds. Deleting app data unlinks these billing records from the app identifier, but does not cancel an Apple subscription. You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple account settings. In the new subscription update, Apple-verified restoration can recover billing access without a WordPin login. Restored devices share one UTC-day allowance; their photos and learning records remain separate. Short-lived aggregate quota counters may remain after identity deletion to prevent resetting the same daily allowance.
RevenueCat subscription integration — development update
The new subscription integration uses RevenueCat to validate and manage purchases. RevenueCat receives a random billing identifier, store purchase and subscription information, and technical device and connection information needed to provide its service. Apple processes payments. We do not send your photos, recognized vocabulary, or review content to RevenueCat. Optional automatic device-identifier collection and diagnostics are disabled in this integration. Our first-party learning and performance events remain separate.
Deleting WordPin data unlinks our stored billing identity; it does not cancel an Apple subscription or automatically delete records held by Apple or RevenueCat. Contact us for subscription-data requests. The new update supports receipt-verified billing recovery after an identity reset; private photos and learning records are not restored or shared by this billing action. This integration is under development; this update does not mean subscriptions are available in the published app.

Welche Daten wir erheben

- Problemmeldungen, die du sendest, einschließlich des Problems, das du ausgewählt hast, einer etwaigen Notiz von dir und der Wortkarte, die du dir gerade angesehen hast.

Du kannst deine Fotos und Lerndaten in den Einstellungen löschen.
- Hosting. Die Daten werden auf von uns gemieteten Servern in Hongkong gespeichert (für Nutzer in Festlandchina auf Servern in Festlandchina).
Für die Aussprache wird die integrierte Sprachausgabe deines Geräts verwendet; sie läuft niemals über unsere Server.
Aufbewahrung und Löschung deiner Daten
- Fotos und Lerndaten werden gespeichert, bis du sie löschst.

Quali dati raccogliamo
- Foto e screenshot che carichi. Prima del caricamento vengono ridimensionati a 1600 pixel sul lato più lungo e ne vengono rimossi i metadati, come l’orario e la posizione (GPS).
